One of the 'Four Pillars of Excellence' of Saint Mary's Hall, the Fine Arts
has a diverse and widely- recognized reputation for excellence. An arts faculty
of sixteen full-time and ten part-time professionals constantly strives to find
new and innovative ways to further the vision of the Fine Arts Department: "to
instill a life-long appreciation and participation in the arts by fostering
creative expression and developing a strong sense of self through the creative
process."
As part of the daily curriculum from Pre-K through Upper School, courses are
offered in vocal and instrumental music, theater arts, visual arts and dance. In
the primary grades, art, drama and music are offered to everyone on a weekly
rotation, with dance being offered to interested students on a limited basis. In
Middle School, students may choose which Fine Arts discipline they wish to
pursue, while Upper School students may further their abilities in all
disciplines through specialized courses that include Honors Drawing and
Painting, Photography, Digital Video, AP 2-D Drawing, AP 3-D Design, AP Art
History, Dance, Acting, and Directing for the Stage. Private instruction in
piano, guitar, and voice is also available to primarily Upper and Middle School
students on a limited basis.
Throughout the year, students of all ages actively perform in plays, concerts,
musicals, and major dance productions on a regular basis. In addition to
curricular courses, students have the opportunity to study not only with guest
artists and/or performers who come to campus during the year, but can audition
for various internships available with professional performing arts companies or
organizations. The public is always welcome to attend these after-school
performances, currently priced at $8 for adults and $5 for children. Visiting
school groups of 10 or more receive $1 off per ticket by calling 483-9253. To purchase tickets and reserve your seats, click on the Online Reservation
